Asia University is a private university located in the suburbs of Tokyo, the capital city of Japan. 6,500 students study on campus including 311 international students in 2023. APU is a multicultural campus where about 50% of the student body comprises of international students. Students from 106 countries and regions (as of May 1, 2023) gather to study this uniquely international environment in Japan. Moreover, one in two faculty members is of foreign nationality, and the official languages of the campus are English and Japanese.

Programs in English at Komaba (PEAK) at the University of Tokyo, our first undergraduate degree program conducted in a language other than Japanese, was established in October 2012.  Currently, there are two different courses of study available, which are “The International Program on Japan in East Asia” and “The International Program on Environmental Sciences”. Both of these programs are interdisciplinary degree programs consisting of two years of liberal arts study in the Junior Division and two years of specialization in the Senior Division. In this program, all of the courses available as part of these programs are delivered entirely in English by PEAK faculty members who are making great efforts to broaden and enrich their approaches to both teaching and content for PEAK classes. They strive to instill in PEAK students not only the long fostered UTokyo’s liberal arts education to obtain a comprehensive understanding of the world’s complex reality, but also the global communication abilities and the imagination necessary to comprehend fully the many problems facing human society across the globe. There is no Japanese language requirement to join either of the programs, but studying Japanese is an important part of the program and Japanese language classes are mandatory during the junior division for both programs. While PEAK is a small program that selects only a few new excellent students each year, we believe it is undoubtedly one of UTokyo’s most important endeavors.  

Toyo University was founded as a small academy of philosophy in 1887. It served as the first university that accepted female students in Japan. Today, it is considered one of the largest private universities in Japan with more than 31,000 students learning in 5 different campuses located in/around Tokyo area. Toyo has more than 1,200 international students originated from many different parts of the world. Programs in undergraduate level consists of 48 departments, including departments of humanities, social sciences, engineering, and computer/IT science. 2 of them are English-medium programs, in which students can complete all course work in English. Each program has post graduate school of related fields.  

University of Fukui (UF) is a national university located in the central part of Japan and facing the Sea of Japan. UF has four schools: Education, Medical Sciences, Engineering, and Global and Community Studies. Each school has its graduate school. About 5,000 students study at UF.

The Global Business Course (GBC) was established as a part of the University of Hyogo’s School of Economics and Management in 2019. It is a 4-year undergraduate program taught entirely in English that accepts both Japanese and Foreign students. The GBC provides students opportunities to study both economics and management from the basics to advanced levels in English. In addition, there are exciting fieldwork and internship opportunities. The University of Hyogo enjoys unique connections with major enterprises in Kobe and elsewhere in Hyogo Prefecture. These connections allow GBC students to join internship programs and have opportunities for actual experience to deepen their understanding of Japanese enterprises. GBC international students take Japanese language classes as well as classes to learn about and experience Japan. They begin with intensive language courses suitable to their level of Japanese, from beginner to advanced, in order to make their new lives in Japan easier. After this, they continue to study Japanese systematically as well as take classes to increase their understanding of Japanese culture, economics and management. All GBC students are required to live in Global House, the on-campus international dormitory, for their first year. Three or four students share a unit which includes a kitchen, living room, bathroom and a private bedroom for each student. The University of Hyogo provides GBC students with support in looking for housing when it is time for them to move out of Global House. All international students are granted a 50% reduction in application, admission and tuition fees. Also, from the 2nd to the 4th year, students with grades in the top 30% are exempted from paying tuition. Additionally, students can apply for financial aid in the form of the Japanese Government Scholarship (MEXT Scholarship), JASSO Scholarships and other private scholarships.

University of Yamanashi aims to develop human resources who can respond to the demands of the region and play an active role on the world stage as the core of the local community, with the objective of “Creating the Backbone of the Community and Developing Citizens of the World”. University of Yamanashi is comprised of four faculties; “Faculty of Education”, “Faculty of Engineering”, “Faculty of Life and Environmental Sciences”, and “Faculty of Medicine”.
